Le Castagne

Here’s a great blog about the joys of eating chestnuts during autumn!  My favorite is to roast them in the open fire (or the oven…) and eat them hot.

Remember to prick them with a fork before you put them in the fire, or else they will burst.  The best idea is to keep them moving, so if you are using an oven, roast them on a tray so you can turn them over every couple of minutes.  If you are using an open fire, cook them on a saucepan so you can toss them easily…again, every couple of minutes.

In Melbourne, it’s coming in to summer now but we have these really cool street vendors that roast chestnuts over a gas cooker on the street corner.  You can buy them in a paper bag straight off the cooker.  Just beautiful!
